On 13 March 2025, the management board of EXCELLEND met with Dr. Stasinos Konstantopoulos, Senior Researcher at the Institute of Informatics & Telecommunications of NCSR Demokritos, to explore potential areas of collaboration with the MANOLO project. 

MANOLO is developing a comprehensive and trustworthy ecosystem of artificial intelligence algorithms and tools designed to improve the efficiency, optimization, and sustainability of AI systems. The project focuses on reducing the computational resources, energy consumption, and data requirements needed to train, deploy, and operate high-quality AI models across both centralized cloud infrastructures and distributed cloud-edge environments.

The meeting highlighted the complementary expertise of the two initiatives and identified several areas where collaboration could generate added value. By combining EXCELLEND’s expertise in energy and mechanical engineering with MANOLO’s advances in artificial intelligence and intelligent computing, the two projects aim to develop interdisciplinary solutions that support more efficient, resilient, and sustainable energy systems.

The meeting represents an important first step toward establishing long-term cooperation between the two projects. One of the strategic objectives of EXCELLEND is to strengthen collaboration across other laboratories of NCSR Demokritos, fostering interdisciplinary research and expanding the Centre’s scientific and technological impact. Follow-up discussions are planned in the coming months to define concrete areas of collaboration, identify joint research activities, and develop a framework for sustained interaction between the participating research teams.
