
As the transition towards sustainable and energy-efficient heating solutions accelerates across Europe, high-temperature heat pumps are attracting increasing attention for their potential to decarbonize industrial processes and district heating applications. In this context, EXCELLEND project team welcomed Dr. Cordin Arpagaus (Eastern Switzerland University of Applied Sciences) to NCSR Demokritos for an exchange of ideas on recent developments in this rapidly evolving field.
The visit provided an opportunity for a scientific discussion on the current state and future prospects of high-temperature heat pump technologies, with a particular focus on their growing role in improving energy efficiency and supporting the transition to low-carbon energy systems.
High-temperature heat pumps are considered one of the key technologies for reducing greenhouse gas emissions in sectors that require process heat at elevated temperatures. By enabling the efficient recovery and upgrading of waste heat, these systems can contribute to lower energy consumption, increased industrial efficiency, and greater integration of renewable energy sources into heating applications.
The meeting also reflected EXCELLEND’s commitment to engaging with leading international experts and fostering scientific dialogue on technologies that are expected to play a significant role in the future energy landscape.
