tsatsaronsi ECOS 2026

Representing the EXCELLEND project, Prof. George Tsatsaronis and research assistant Alexandra Pavlidi participated in the 39th ECOS conference, held in Constanța, Romania, from June 28 to July 3, 2026. The ECOS conference is an internationally recognized scientific event focused on advanced energy systems, thermodynamics, and sustainable energy technologies.

On 30 June, Prof. Tsatsaronis delivered a keynote speech on the Key takeaways from developments in Energy Engineering in the last 50 years, giving a comprehensive overview of the technological progress, scientific milestones, and emerging challenges that have shaped the evolution of modern energy engineering.

The speech explored the transformation of energy systems over the past five decades, including advances in energy conversion technologies, improvements in efficiency, the integration of renewable energy sources, and the growing importance of sustainability and decarbonization. It also highlighted the role of innovation and interdisciplinary research in addressing today’s energy challenges and supporting the transition toward more resilient and sustainable energy systems.

Also, on the 1st of July, Alexandra Pavlidi presented her contribution on the simulation of multistage hydrogen compression integrated with waste heat recovery using Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) technology. Her work addresses key challenges in hydrogen energy systems, particularly the efficient management of compression processes while recovering and reusing thermal energy that would otherwise be lost.

The presented study is part of her broader doctoral research, which focuses on methods for hydrogen capture, transport, and release. The research contributes to ongoing developments in hydrogen technologies and sustainable energy systems and is conducted in collaboration with the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA).
